Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about supporting (or being supported in) DMV classrooms with 0% mandatory platform fees.

General

What is ClassroomSponsors?
A simple, joyful website that lets DMV families support real K-12 public and charter classrooms with full transparency and zero mandatory platform fees. Teachers post needs. Parents give cash (teacher spends with photo proof) or buy specific items directly. 100% of every classroom gift reaches the kids.
Is there really a 0% platform fee?
Yes. 0% mandatory platform fees. 100% of every gift goes straight to the classroom. We offer a fully optional tip (default ~5%, you can set it to $0) that never reduces the amount the classroom receives. The split is shown clearly at every step.
How is this different from other fundraising sites?
Teacher-controlled hybrid giving (cash or exact items), radical transparency with photo proof of every spend, opt-in Community Heroes visibility, and — most importantly — 0% mandatory platform fees. No middleman takes a cut from the classroom portion.
Is this only for the DMV right now?
Yes — we launched with a focused DMV effort using real NCES data for every active public and charter K-12 school in Virginia, DC, and Maryland. ClassroomSponsors is built to expand while keeping the same high standards and 0% promise.
Do you cover private schools?
Yes. Private and independent schools are supported through our friendly verification queue. Reach out at hello@classroomsponsors.com if your school isn't appearing in search yet.

For Teachers – Claiming & Getting Started

How do I claim my classroom?
Free and fast. Search your real NCES school (we have data for ~3,528 active DMV K-12 schools), complete a quick profile, verify, and you're live. See the complete simple 4-step guide at /for-teachers.
What verification do I need?
Tier 0: instant with supported school email for most DMV districts. Tier 1: photo ID + selfie with kind human review (usually under 48 hours). You can draft needs while verification is pending. Full status at /verify/status.
Can I post both cash needs and specific item lists?
Yes — the hybrid model. Create an 'Open Fund' for flexible spending (you log every purchase with photo proof) or post exact item needs so parents can fulfill them directly. Both show live progress.
How quickly can I start receiving support?
Most teachers are posting needs the same day they begin. School email verification is often instant. You can draft everything immediately.
What if my school isn't in the search?
Use the fuzzy search first — it covers virtually every active public and charter school. Private schools go through a short verification queue. Email us and we'll help.
Can I get reports for my principal or grants?
Yes — one-click professional PDF reports from your dashboard include live totals, opt-in Community Heroes, photo spends, and a clear 0% transparency statement.

For Schools, Principals & Districts

How can our school help teachers with almost no admin work?
Share the single link classroomsponsors.com/onboarding (or our ready email template). Teachers claim and verify themselves. Zero ongoing burden for you. See the full guide at /for-schools.
Can we see which classrooms are getting support?
Yes. Public district and school pages aggregate live activity. High-need classrooms become visible community-wide, helping with equity and awareness.
Do we get any reports or oversight?
Public district/school pages + the /impact gallery give rich views. Teachers can also share their personal reports. Custom needs via hello@classroomsponsors.com.
Can PTAs or foundations use this alongside existing fundraisers?
Absolutely — it's a perfect complement. Teachers receive direct, transparent classroom-level support while larger efforts continue. 0% mandatory platform fees on every gift.

For Parents, Donors & Community Heroes

How do I find classrooms to support?
Search anywhere — homepage, ⌘K global search, /discover, or district/school pages. Filter by high-need, state, grade, category. Beautiful cards with real stories and live progress.
Can I give cash or buy specific items?
Both. Give flexible cash to a teacher's Open Fund (they spend with photo proof) or choose exact items from their posted lists. 0% mandatory platform fees either way — 100% reaches the classroom.
What is the optional tip?
A fully voluntary contribution (slider, default ~5%, set to $0 anytime) that helps us run the platform. It never reduces the classroom portion. The exact split is shown clearly before you give.
Can I make my support recurring?
Yes. Toggle 'Make this recurring' to become a Standing Hero with predictable monthly support. Pause, adjust, or cancel anytime in My Impact. Teachers love the reliability.
Will my name appear publicly?
Only if you choose. Opt-in Community Hero visibility (full name, 'Proud Parent,' or anonymous). Your full gift still counts for the classroom either way. Change anytime in My Impact.
Do I need an account to give?
No account required for one-time gifts. An account unlocks My Impact tracking, recurring gifts, referral credits, and your full history of joyful impact.
How do I see exactly where my money went?
Every Open Fund spend appears with a receipt photo + teacher note on the classroom page and in your personal My Impact feed. Thank-you notes close the loop.

How Money, Fees & Impact Work

Is there really a 0% platform fee?
Yes — our non-negotiable promise. 0% mandatory platform fees. 100% of every classroom gift reaches the kids. The only optional amount is the tip you fully control.
What happens if a need isn't fully funded?
Funds never disappear. Open Fund balances stay available for the teacher to use on real needs (with photo proof). Item needs can be supplemented by Open Fund support. 100% stays with the classroom.
How do recurring gifts help teachers?
Standing Hero monthly support gives teachers predictable resources they can plan around. Every payment still delivers 0% mandatory platform fees and 100% classroom impact.
Can companies match gifts?
Yes. The donation flow supports corporate matching interest. 0% mandatory platform fees ensures every matched dollar multiplies fully for the classroom.
Are gifts tax-deductible?
Through our fiscal sponsor partnership (details on /transparency and /legal). Receipts clearly name the sponsor. We make no tax advice — please consult your advisor.

Verification, Trust & Safety

How does teacher verification work?
Tier 0: instant with supported school email for most DMV districts. Tier 1: photo ID + selfie with friendly human review (usually well under 48 hours). Only verified teachers can receive funds. See /verify/status for your personal status.
What if verification needs more information?
A kind, transparent process. 'Needs info' is usually just a clearer photo or quick clarification — no penalty, no lost place in line. Re-upload instantly.
How do you prevent misuse of funds?
Every Open Fund spend requires a receipt photo + note from the verified teacher. It appears publicly on the classroom page and in every supporter's My Impact. Radical transparency is our strongest protection.
Can I trust that the teachers are real?
Yes. Two-tier verification (school email or ID+selfie) plus ongoing human oversight. Only verified teachers can publish needs or receive gifts. We are building in public with radical transparency.

Privacy, Visibility & Data

Can I stay completely anonymous when giving?
Yes. Choose anonymous at checkout or toggle visibility later in My Impact. Your full gift still reaches the classroom and counts in aggregates. Privacy-first by design.
How do I control whether I appear on leaderboards?
Simple checkbox during donation + full controls in My Impact / Settings at any time. Change your display name or go fully anonymous whenever you want.
What data do you collect?
Only what is needed to connect donors with verified classrooms and show opt-in impact. We never sell data. Full details in our Privacy Policy at /privacy. Strong children's privacy protections (COPPA/FERPA aligned).
Can I delete my account or data?
Yes — self-serve options in Settings plus support at privacy@classroomsponsors.com. We follow strict data minimization and retention policies.

Mobile & Offline Experience

Does it work great on mobile?
Mobile-extraordinary by design — large tap targets, responsive layouts, and full functionality on phones and tablets. Add to your home screen via the PWA prompt for fast, reliable access even offline.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Robust PWA support with beautiful offline shell. Browse cached DMV classrooms, impact stories, and more. Teacher spend logging has offline queues that sync automatically on reconnect.
How fast is the search?
Instant client-side fuzzy search across the full ~3,528 active DMV NCES schools plus our live DMV classrooms. Works beautifully even on slow connections.
Is ClassroomSponsors accessible?
Strong and ongoing focus on a11y (native details, proper headings, labels, keyboard support, live regions, SVG titles). Report any issues and we'll fix them fast.

Community Heroes, Impact & Leaderboards

What does it mean to be a Community Hero?
Opt-in visible supporters who proudly appear on leaderboards, in impact stories, and in teachers' My Impact feeds. Your generosity becomes part of the joyful, social side of giving while 100% of your gift still reaches the classroom.
How do I track the long-term difference I make?
My Impact shows every receipt, photo story, recurring projections, and referral credits. The /impact gallery shows movement-scale stories and beautiful d3 visualizations updated live from real gifts and spends.
Can I see impact across the whole DMV?
Yes — the /impact gallery is our living crown jewel with filters, Story of the Week, rich visualizations, and every photo story from real Community Heroes.
How do thank-you notes work?
Teachers send them after spends (or anytime). They become permanent, warm stories on the classroom page and in your My Impact. One of the most-loved parts of the closed loop.
